Updating outstanding Freeze requests

Depending on the Absolute product licenses associated with your account, the Freeze feature may not be available.

If you are logged in as a user with Perform permissions for Freeze Device, you can update an existing Freeze request by submitting a new request to replace the existing one.

For example, you may want to update the message that shows on a frozen device. To do so, you can submit a new request containing the updated message. On the device's next agent connection, the existing Freeze request is removed from the device and the new Freeze request is deployed. The device remains frozen, but it now shows the new message.

It's recommended that you consider the following guidelines before replacing an outstanding Freeze request with a new request:

  • Each device is limited to one Freeze of each type (On-demand, Scheduled, and Offline Freeze rule). A new request automatically replaces an existing request, if it is the same Freeze type. Note that the following requests are considered the same Freeze type:

    • On-demand Freeze
    • On-demand Freeze with the Freeze at Firmware option selected
  • Freezes are applied in the following priority order: On-demand > Scheduled > Offline Freeze rule. For example, if an On-demand Freeze request and a Scheduled Freeze request attempt to freeze a device at the same time, the device is frozen by the On-demand Freeze request.
  • The following guidelines apply to frozen devices:

    • If a device is frozen by either type of Freeze request or an Offline Freeze rule and you submit a new On-demand Freeze request, the device is now frozen by the On-demand Freeze request.
    • If a device is frozen by a Scheduled Freeze request and you submit a new Scheduled Freeze request, the device is unfrozen on the next agent connection and the new Freeze date is set on the device.
    • If a device is frozen by an Offline Freeze rule, and the Freeze date for a Scheduled Freeze request occurs, the device is now frozen by the Scheduled Freeze request.

To submit a new On-demand or Scheduled Freeze request, see Freezing devices.

To edit an existing Offline Freeze rule, see Managing Offline Freeze rules.
